Hi, my name is Alex Cuttiford and I’m married to the beautiful Melissa. We have been married for four years now and together are associate pastors of Generocity Church Bathurst. Generocity is a multi-campus church that plants campuses in regional and rural Australia.

What I do for fun

Melissa and I are always on the lookout for new cafés to try. We love to think about travelling and occasionally, actually do it. Our last trip was to the US for a month in 2017. I play AFL for the Bathurst Giants and am a proud West Coast Eagles supporter.

My testimony

I became a Christian in 2009, but it wasn’t until my sister’s wedding in December of 2012 that I understood what I was looking for. As I listened to them speak about their faith I realised, Jesus wants to be in a relationship with me. I honestly left that wedding a different person.
I had come back for the wedding from being overseas for seven months, but I decided I would stay in Bathurst for a while. Here I was – no job, no friends and no money… just a new-found passion for Jesus. So, for the first time in my life I started reading the bible and for the next 3 months, that’s all I did. That season was one typified by revelation. I just kept reading and God kept giving me understanding and insight.

Why prayer?

As I kept pressing into God, He started to reveal Himself to me in powerful ways. I had dreams and He would wake me in the night with an intense need to pray. I started to read different books about prayer, alongside what the bible was teaching me and I was becoming convinced that it was a powerful thing.

Melissa then had a dream that lead me to 1 Timothy 2: 1-3 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for Kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our saviour.”

That day, I knew God had called me to be a man of prayer and to teach others about it.

My main points

– We need to cultivate a relational prayer life.
– Prayer is diverse in its expression.
– Every aspect of your life affects your prayer life. The way you treat people, the decisions you make, your thoughts and attitudes all matter in a relational prayer life.

If you want to learn more about prayer or want to grow your relational connection with God please, subscribe and follow me on Instagram and Facebook. I’ll be doing fortnightly blogs as well as regular videos.

Let’s go on a journey together.
